Harkness Safaris is a small family run company found in 2008 with the wish to conduct Safaris in the world's top wilderness destinations. Additionally, I wanted to stay true to the founding principles of Botswana tourism – top quality product in private or quiet areas. I have now been guiding in Botswana for over 12 years, giving me the broad knowledge of local products to put together the best itineraries for visiting guests.
"For me a Safari has to have three essential ingredients – excellent game, excellent wilderness and excellent service. All the Safaris I Guide in Botswana have this mix. Having Guided people from all over the world I know that you will be inspired by your Botswana Safari."
We have noticed that over the last 20 years the quality of Guiding throughout Africa has generally gone downhill. The intrepid African Guide has been largely replaced by glorified drivers. In Botswana we have a number of genuine bush guides who do not simply point at animals but have an intimate knowledge of ecology. Having a private Guide on Safari ensures you a unique experience that could never be replicated anywhere else in Africa. We do not always have to adhere to a fixed daily schedule and routine – we are hosts aswell as Guides for our guests and make you feel special!)
"Our mobile safari was the best trip of my life. The camping sites were breath-taking. The tents, the lights were absolutely charming, the food delicious and the staff both helpful and discrete. Our early mornings, our tea-times in the bush and our drinks around the fire at night sent us back to the old 'out of Africa' times."
"Andrew is a fantastic guide. He knows how to adapt to his guests, his enthusiasm about wildlife and game exceeds even ours and everytime we find something it almost feels like this is the first time for him too."
"We spent a lot of time chatting and reflecting on life and we feel that Andrew has become a friend living very far. We came back home with unforgettable memories: a night with a leopard hunting an impala, a lioness and her 1-week old cub, so many sightings of our favourite beautiful rollers, sunset with the elephants, crazy night in Livingstone..."
"The African bush has become my favourite place on Earth and this trip is the reason."
